In a video thanking Musk and his foundation for the "incredibly generous" gift, Khan Academy founder Salman Khan said the funds will enable the organization to "accelerate all sorts of content" for its hundred and twenty million users around the world. He also noted that the nonprofit he founded in 2008 — which today provides personalized online educational resources in thirty-six languages — is operating at a budget deficit for 2021.

Khan Academy received a $5 million gift from Twitter and Square co-founder and CEO Jack Dorsey in August 2020.

"[A]s much as progress has been made...there are many billions who need this — there [are] people throughout the planet who need a way to tap into their potential," said Khan. "I view this type of investment in what we're doing as really foundational for us to be able to build a multigenerational institution so that 'future Elon Musks' of the world are also able to tap into their potential and help all of us uplevel who we are as a civilization."
